Let Me Down Gently
I never said I was an angel, rather, I'm a feather on its wing, so when you let me drift on the next western current, let me fall slowly down, d r i f t i n g. I promise I'll land softly, though you will not find me where you left me.

Empty Gardens
It was a wine-petaled pansy that my mother pruned from the garden box; it reminded me that I had blossomed late and wilted. At fourteen I created pansy petals of my own, waking up with hot-fisted cramps and the proof I was a woman. I was not a rose, perennial, as I went from blooming monthly to not at all. I would rather spend a day curled up like the fetus I may never carry than flat on my back wondering why God allowed worse women than me to bear children.

Summer Love
When I was eight I hated summer It was juice-box sticky and every day I scraped myself off my sheets and poured my body into a glass. At twenty-two, I don't remember peeling my legs off a wooden chair come June, but how our hands were damp with nerves when we held them, how the AC on the bus was too much so my scarf became your blanket and we ate curry with my parents before I fell asleep on your shoulder. Or when you told me not to swim too far out and the ocean was too cold, how you got sunburned and I bit my tongue so hard holding back "I told you so" that I swear I bled, your eyes reflecting the fish at the aquarium, how you teased

Idle Hands Without Any Plans
Idle Hands Without Any Plans What a way to waste a day, Watching your own flesh decay, How divine, as you may find, Getting lost in your own mind, If I may share, you're quite the pair, That is, you and your despair, This routine, even unseen, Is constant and unfailing, (but) Not to fear, just rest my dear, Tomorrow is another year.

to the boy who doesn't plan on leaving
how much of me can you swallow, love before you finally purge? I am a cartographer of bad experiences; I can locate precisely where I see our divergence extraordinaire and I can tell you before I have even met you that the skin on my hands is too dry for the softness you plan on caressing me with. let me tell you how this ends; I will show you all the people I have destroyed - flooded to the best of my ignorance, driven wild with jealousy, had whipped with lust and left smoking pot after four promises stating otherwise. let me tell you how this ends; after showing you the blessed catastrophe it is to be human, you will destroy me. you may

free bird
it’s a need to feel the suns golden fingers teasing figure eights along my back, & the wind on my cheeks. i must have been a bird in some past life, a swallow or a hummingbird. because, i swear on some nights i can feel the growing pains of an atlas ready to burst through my skin like wings. i just want to be free.

Blood Brothers
Brookie always holds my hand when we cross the street. She's never given a reason for it, she just does it. It's become this unspoken rule with us that whenever we cross the street together, she slips her hand in mine and I lace my fingers through hers and we walk hand-in-hand until we reach the other side and she drops her hand and we both wipe our palms on our jeans. Brookie's a little scared of crossing the street. Her poppa died in a car crash when we were six. He was a pedestrian. She's never gotten over it. Brookie is my best friend going on sixteen years now, which is pretty impressive considering we're both sixteen. We don't h

Liar
~ "You're lying, Mommy" the girl with pixie hair mumbled as she skirted near the woman's side. "I never lie," Her mother responded as her hands ghosted across her son's hair. "That's a lie everyone lies, the teacher told me so, she says I lie the best, too. " Her eyes glistened with malicious splendor as she said the words being the best liar was a brilliant thing to be, simply perfect. "I never lie," Her mother simply repeated bending over to gather ingredients into the grocery cart. The girl grumbled, "Nu-uh, you're just bad at it." ~ "Tell me another Mommy!!" he screec

Does that make me Different?
I wear make up. Does that make me fake? I cry. Does that make me emo? I have male friends. Does that make me slutty? I smile a lot. Does that make me weird? I laugh loud. Does that make me preppy? I have anxiety. Does that make me a freak? I have Bipolar Disorder. Does that make me abnormal? I respect people. I change for me, and only me. I have a past, but I know I have a future. Does that make me different? Maybe. But at least it makes me Me.

Hangnail
Hangnail, hangnail, Thorn in my hand, What glory shall ye yield? Thorns in the side gain biblical verses, Or are necessary evils of roses beloved. Sand grains in oyster shells become pearls, Rough turned into diamond, Bane into beauty. But what of you, oh blessing of stepmothers? Some fairy tale of plaguing those toiling stepdaughters, Insult to injury? Or perhaps some lore bespeaking the mothers-die of the lace of queens, Or the fathers-die of black widows… But in the end, it shall matter not. For to me, ye shall yield nothing But voicelessness in the jaws of clippers.
